H4O and other hydrogen-oxygen compounds at giant-planet core pressures

چکیده
Water and hydrogen at high pressure make up a substantial fraction of the interiors of giant planets. Using ab initio random structure search methods we investigate the ground-state crystal structures of water, hydrogen, and hydrogen-oxygen compounds. We find that, at pressures beyond 14 Mbar, excess hydrogen is incorporated into the ice phase to form a novel structure with H4O stoichiometry. We also predict two new ground state structures, P21/m and I4/mmm, for postC2/m water ice.

Ab initio free energy calculations of the solubility of silica in metallic hydrogen and application to giant planet cores
By combining density functional molecular dynamics simulations with a thermodynamic integration technique, we determine the free energy of metallic hydrogen and silica, SiO2, at megabar pressure and thousands of degrees Kelvin. Our ab initio solubility calculations show that silica dissolves into fluid hydrogen above 5000 K for pressures from 10 and 40 megabars, which has implication for the ev...
متن کاملNew Constraints on the Composition of Jupiter from Galileo Measurements and Interior Models
Using the helium abundance measured by Galileo in the atmosphere of Jupiter and interior models reproducing the observed external gravitational field, we derive new constraints on the composition and structure of the planet. We conclude that, except for helium which must be more abundant in the metallic interior than in the molecular envelope, Jupiter could be homogeneous (no core) or could hav...
متن کاملFormation of Giant Planets
The observed properties of giant planets, models of their evolution and observations of protoplanetary disks provide constraints on the formation of gas giant planets. The four largest planets in our Solar System contain considerable quantities of hydrogen and helium; these gasses could not have condensed into solid planetesimals within the protoplanetary disk. Jupiter and Saturn are mostly hyd...
متن کاملOn the Origin of Hd149026b
The high density of the recently discovered close-in extrasolar planet HD149026b suggests the presence of a huge core in the planet, which challenges planet formation theory. We first derive constraints on the amount of heavy elements and hydrogen/helium present in the planet: We find that preferred values of the core mass are between 50 and 80M ⊕ , although a minimum value of the core mass is ...
متن کاملEffectiveness of activated hydrogen ions in neutralizing paraquat intoxication in rats.
OBJECTIVE Investigate the effectiveness of H4O in preventing the paraquat's effect in rats. MATERIAL AND METHOD Disease-free male spraque Dawley rats were used in the experiment. They were divided into two groups of 5, as the control group and the experiment group. All rats were poisoned with paraquat. The control group was fed water (H2O) while the experiment group was fed activated hydrogen...
